Architect Nina Zaitseva - about her experience in organizing interior photography, which she had to spend five times for a decent result.

“Implement a decent interior is a feat. But to fix these works, as it turned out, is another story. Photos - this is a visual result of all the work invested, nerves and time. Of course, ideally, it is necessary to prepare for shooting in a few months, decide on a photographer and fix the date. In quiet mode, solve and bring all the missing to place accents in frames. But in reality, this is not always the case for various reasons. There are an infinite number of plots for which there is no possibility to shoot an object at all or to prepare in advance for shooting, so you have to cling to every chance - there may not be another opportunity.

In my story, the chance fell out five times, but each of them was sudden, so it didn’t work out how to prepare. But it was possible to draw important conclusions.

1. Dressing On the preparation of the object for the first shooting and the search for the photographer were only one day. And in this panic, as it turned out, I overdid it with saturation of the interior with details. Serving and accessories should be treated very delicately. Attention is better given to paintings, sculptures and art objects. Even flower arrangements should be approached very carefully, and sometimes not at all. As a result, the photographer was so fascinated with still lifes that he simply did not have enough for the interior.

2. Proportions It is very important to pay attention to the windows. After receiving the first shooting, I realized that the compositional space was falling apart due to the large number of non-curtained windows. It is one thing when the glazing is panoramic, but quite another when the glazing area argues with the volume of the walls. Also, do not forget about the views from the windows, because they are not always winning.

3. Priorities The author of the project has to decide what is more important - to show the space as a whole, to focus on objects and textures, or to illustrate the main ideas and techniques used in the interior. All these options have the right to exist, the choice depends on the object itself. But you need to determine which one is preferable.

4. Lighting The next important point is the lighting. Only natural! This option of indoor shooting is popular in most of the leading print publications. If you really want to show beautiful lights, or if the lamps are off, the concept is lost, then it is better to make frames in two versions at once: with natural and artificial light.

5. Art in scale Art in the interior is the accent that creates an atmosphere of absolute completion. In my case, it was the pictures that contributed to the fact that there were three more shots. Pictures and art objects were given special attention, while their scale was quite large. Unfortunately, the residual principle of allocating funds for the purchase of works of art is widespread, although this is what brings individuality into the interior. For shooting, you can use the service of fitting objects of art. This will provide an opportunity to get beautiful photos and clearly show customers what effect the pictures have on the interior. Especially if this was one of the key ideas in the development of the project.

6. Framing During the third shooting, the discovery for me was that the real interior and the well-built frame are two completely different stories. It is necessary to build interior items, move chairs, chairs, accessories and other important details so that you get an interesting frame. It may be worthwhile to have movers on site at the time of the shooting in order to ensure the possibility of operational rearrangements.

7. Interactive frame tracking If, during shooting, the photographer does not display a frame on the laptop screen to which the camera is directly connected, then be prepared for the fact that 99% of all shots will not be useful to you. In interior photography, the attention to detail is very large, and on a tiny camera screen it is much more difficult to evaluate all aspects of the frame - that is why the result is immediately displayed on the laptop screen for its analysis. Whatever the famous photographer was, if you don’t participate and see the footage in the process, almost all the pictures will be overly informative and no Photoshop will save.

8. Not a wedding photographer From the whole thorny path I made that well-exposed shots are the result of a painstaking and lengthy process, unrelated to only moving the photographer in space with a camera to capture one or another view from different points. For interior photography you need an interior photographer.

9. Retouching Even after exhausting filming, when it seems that you have gone through all the circles of Hell, the final is not yet close. Retouchers appear in the arena with the statements "I did not see common sense in your requirements for photographs and therefore did not." The main thing is not to break the monitor and not to throw the phone away. ”
