In the Chinese city of Changsha, the construction of the original pedestrian bridge was completed. The authors of the project, the Dutch studio Next Architects, called the construction “Lucky Knot”, emphasizing its unusual shape. A steel red bridge twists like a Möbius strip, its sharp turns and climbs also resemble the classic “roller coaster” ride. One of the authors of the project, John de Water, says that the shape of the bridge was borrowed from the Chinese art of weaving, in which the knot traditionally symbolizes luck. The shape of the bridge is connected with the peculiarities of the local landscape and the differences in its height. Lucky Knot Bridge connects the city of Changshu and Lake Meihi, its high elevation point provides a scenic view of the mountain range adjacent to the lake.
The "twisted" silhouette of the bridge resembles another project of the Dutch studio - The Elastic Perspective - a staircase in Barendrecht (Holland), also serving as a viewing platform. Next Architects has offices in Holland and China. Specializes in designing offices, private houses and public buildings.
