Japanese designer Jin Kuramoto created the “100 percent biological chair”. Its fully biodegradable material is most often used for the production of banknotes, cigarette packs and tea bags.

A similar material was used two years ago by the Dutch designer Christine Meindertsma, who created a composite based on biodegradable polylactic acid obtained from sugar cane or cornstarch. Kuramoto has developed a method by which he combines flax fibers in layers. And only then to harden the structure using resin. Like the Meindertsma chair, the new item is completely organic. Jin was exhibited for the first time in the spring of 2017 in Milan at the Milan Furniture Salon.

He founded his Tokyo studio, Jin Kuramoto, in 2007. The office is working on the design of furniture, lamps and cars. Kuramoto has earned many awards: IF Design, Good Design, Red Dot, etc. Jin has been cooperating with Swedish office furniture manufacturer Offect for many years. The Offecct brand in 2017 was acquired by the Scandinavian Business Seating group, known as Flokk, and it owns HÅG, RH, BMA Ergonomics, Malmstolen and RBM product brands.
