Rachel and nick cope: calico's new reality

Americans Rachel and Nick Cope (Rachel, Nick Cope) managed to turn the taste of mods to wallpaper. In 2013, they founded Calico Wallpaper in Brooklyn, which offers interior designers beautiful, luxurious, and defiantly eco-friendly hand-made wallpapers.

For several years, the Cope couple studied "marble paper" - the technology of making paper wallpaper with a texture imitating natural stone. In developing the first collection of wallpaper, they relied on the Japanese technique of floating carcass on the water "sumingagi" and the Turkish technique of drawing "ebru."

Calico's next collection of wallpaper continued past discoveries, but Cope began to experiment with new technologies, trying different dyes and materials. So in their wallpaper appeared gradient, metallic sheen, weaving from natural fibers, and more recently images caught by NASA telescopes became the motive of the wallpaper.

Rachel and Nick don't get tired of working in the same genre - technologies and new images do not let them get bored. In addition, they design interiors - inventive, atmospheric, their handwriting can not be confused.

The Cope family lives and works in Red Hook, New York in Brooklyn. Apartment and studio are located across the street. The work day begins with business discussions, then both concentrate on design. Rachel works more with her hands and paints (her mother is a school drawing teacher, so from childhood Rachel was constantly engaged in painting, drawing and gluing collages), Nick is more focused on computer design and visualization.

“We always liked the idea of creating immersive spaces,” says Nick. “When you see Calico’s textured wallpaper covering all the walls in a room, you feel like a different reality.”

The brand Calico has a subsidiary line of textiles, under which the model goes Rachel. “I wanted to restore the sense of nature,” says Rachel. - I grew up on beautiful vineyards. I'm trying to bring some of this feeling into the house. ”

Calico wallpapers are LEED certified (American environmental rating system in architecture and construction - ed.) And use mineral pigments.
