Nika zupants: between boudoir and nursery

Slovenka Nika Zupants (Nika Zupanc) confidently mastered the design flirty, seductive and very feminine. Her elegant objects are reminiscent of the 50s, the time of the diorah and housewives. But they are not attracted by the vintage spirit, but by grace, simplicity and eroticism.

Nika debuted with a Lolita desk lamp (her lampshade resembles a girl's cap) for the Dutch brand Moooi. The semi-free semi-naive thing appealed to the public and the press. Then very quickly Zupants took root in a narrow circle of famous European designers. Her armchairs, chairs and sofas from the Stay, Sé series decorate the Parisian interiors of Gerard Fevre, the outdoor version of the Lolita is the Kameha Grand Zurich hotel designed by Marcel Wanders, and the ceramic baby Oh, baby became an exhibitor of ANIMAITA in 2015 in the Milan Design Museum Triennale. In recent years, she has been a welcome guest in Milan, Paris, London, and New York. Her works are readily sold and promoted by the industry superstar Milanese gallery owner Rossana Orlandi (Galleria Rossana Orlandi).

Refined, feminine objects, perfectly made, with the seal of European culture and fresh images. How did she manage to succeed? A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the city of Ljubljana is generously endowed professionally, her talents: to invent, draw, copy the style and give it a modern spirit - are beyond doubt. But everything else Zupants also "sexy." Who has not seen light bulbs and chairs Nicky, he certainly remembers portraits of long-legged pin-up with a spectacular profile and bust. Her appearance is envied by a professional actress, and her figure is a fashion model. Nika Zupants continues to repeat that modern design is still a “boys club”. And she wants to tweak the situation slightly. Nike's predecessors - from Charlotte Perriane to Guy Aulenty - tried to play on equal terms with men.

Nika Zupants knows how to be responsible and direct energy in the right direction. For example, she is confident that each prototype should be made at the highest level, therefore, it initially produces all its items in Italy. Often says that the designer must keep abreast of and know for sure whether his opus will be in demand by the market.

Nicky's weapons are femininity. Its author's style is determined by children's toys, cradles, flowers, frills, ruffles, bows. She gladly comes up with accessories for a charming little daughter or son's toy. Zupants installations (Selfdiscipline, Spazio Rossana Orlandi, 20, Esprit Dior / Miss Dior, Grand Palais) are often decided in the genre of a dollhouse. Sometimes her work looks slightly kitschy, but we must remember that in fact, Nicky’s goal is to blur stereotypes.

In March, the works of Niki Zupants set off on a tour of the Far East. Chinese and Korean design lovers, visitors to Design Shanghai 2016, Shanghai Chikalicious Dessert Bar Shanghai and the Dalym Museum in Seoul will get acquainted with the works.
