Issey Miyake continues to work with the heritage of the Japanese artist Ikko Tanaka (Ikko Tanaka, 1930-2002). Tanaka was a famous poster artist, book graphic artist, was engaged in the design of logos, packages, collaborated in many projects with Hanay Mori, Kenzo Takada and Issei Miyake. For fifty years of creativity, he received world fame and inspired more than one generation of designers and artists with his diverse work.

The simplicity of composition and color, conciseness and accuracy of Ikko Tanaka are so consistent with the innovative art of Issei Miyake, and their personal friendship was so deep that it became quite logical for Miyake to create the Ikko Tanaka Issey Miyake line.

The three major works of Tanaka: Nihon Buyo (1981), The 200th Anniversary of Sharaku (1995) et Variations of bold symbols (1992) formed the basis of the first collection Ikko Tanaka Issey Miyake. She started in January 2016. This fall was followed by a sequel.
