The post-war modernism in its Brazilian interpretation is in the wake of trading in collector's design. An exhibition at the Paris Galerie Chastel-Maréchal on the rue Bonaparte confirms this interest.

Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s was a real Eldorado for Europeans fleeing World War II. Sergio Rodriguez, Juaquin Tenreiro, Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalzupin, José Zanini Caldas became the pioneers of a new style unclaimed by European dictatorships.

Brazilian modernism used local wood: exotic breeds of jacaranda, pitch, peva, vinhatiko, etc. Forms were in harmony with the South American landscape, and the content was consistent with socialist ideals.
