How to create a cozy, elegant, laconic and at the same time artistic interior? Profession secrets are shared by Maria Danelia and Oleg Nikitin.

Maria Danelia: We don’t find two identical interiors among our interiors — we rely on individuality, original solutions, and handicraft. Nevertheless, they have something that makes them related. This is a warm atmosphere at home, where, it seems, several generations of the same family have grown — with their family traditions, with a measured pace of life, with things inherited: furniture, statuettes, graphics and painting. For each object we create our own “family” history and we work each interior down to the smallest detail. However, in order not to lose the main thing behind the details, it is important to pay attention to unifying factors.

Oleg Nikitin: First, it is the color. We usually use no more than two or three colors, one of which is the main one, the others are additional. Then the interior looks holistic. So, for example, in one of the most recent works — the Moscow apartment — the cream-cream color became the main color, and as a companion we used a dense terracotta tone. This classic color combination is characteristic, in particular, for the English style. In the ornaments of textiles in the living room there is still a greenish-mustard, this makes the interior alive and elegant. And in the nursery, for example, the shade of green comes in second place, and the theme of red, which plays an important role in the living room, is barely indicated here (these are delicate shades of pink in textiles and wallpaper ornaments).

Maria Danelia: Secondly, style is an important unifying factor. In our case, this is a laconic classic, a balanced mix of European styles, where the main violin is played by the English style. Dark or honey-golden wood, cell and flowers on the upholstery and curtains, wrought-iron chandeliers and a lot of table lamps, furniture made by hand by English masters: Tudor-style bed, Chippendale chairs ... English style is not uniform, and therefore this interior looks natural and dull. In order to revive it and enhance the feeling of the “connection of epochs”, I advise you to add elements of other styles that are more recent in time, for example, ar-deco. The bathroom should be decorated no less carefully than a bedroom or living room. For example, for the bathroom in the apartment, which was discussed above, we ordered a unique painting, made in the old technique of Venetian plaster: gypsum mixed with marble chips, and drawing is applied on this basis. This fresco is not afraid of moisture, it is almost eternal. And, for example, for a house — another object of ours — we brought from England an antique bath of the 18th century with a shower cabin (as it was understood at that time) and a Charcot shower. In England, they ordered doors made of pine, treated with oil, and the walls were decorated with metal tiles. ”
