Antiquity is more relevant than ever. It is time to recall the saying about the new - well forgotten old

The ancient world - Ancient Greece and Rome - always interested descendants. Without antiquity, there was no century in the history of art. It was first remembered by the Italian masters of the Renaissance or Renaissance (it was the Greek and Roman heritage that were revived). The eighteenth century gave the world a classicism style. The exploits of the heroes of the mythological epic became a favorite plot of wall paintings. Houses were necessarily updated in accordance with the new old tastes (at least they decorated the entrance zone with column porticos). At the beginning of the XIX century they spoke about the Empire style. He referred to the ideas, including art, of imperial Rome. In the XX century, the heritage of the Ancient World was remembered during the period of historicism (hobbies with various ancient styles, such as Gothic).

But all this was a serious, conscientious antiquity. The descendants faithfully copied the originals; if they made changes, only small ones. Now designers are not so scrupulous. Yes, many still make direct cues. But there are those who want something more. They take the motifs of ancient architecture, sculpture, painting and use them in their own way. Thus, the capital, enlarged at times, turns into a pouf or a coffee table. Giant columns are laid out from the mosaic. A bust of the ancient hero in the form of a print adorns the back of the designer chair.
