Витторио Libya - the creator and owner of the company My son Italia. A photo synthesizer Libya sits in the legendary Ghost chair, from which the brand’s triumph began 20 years ago My son

Among the legendary names of Italians, who densely fill the history of design, it is so dense that it is impossible to list them all, the name Витторио Libya still stands alone. When 30 years ago he opened his own production of glass furniture, there was no man who would not say to him: "Vittorio, you are crazy! What is Italian furniture? This is wooden furniture!" If you look sensibly, he is really crazy. For centuries, Italians painstakingly planed, cut, patinated, painted and inlaid wooden furniture, and also blew out amazingly beautiful Murano glass. In the middle of the twentieth century, when the plastic boom began, designers rushed to dream with shapes and lines. Technology allowed to bake any thing painted in the artist’s imagination. Plastic, it seemed, won, gave the desired freedom. Витторио Libya at this very time, it is shutting down in its own production, it stands for hours at the hot furnace and tries to apply the old technologies of glass blowing to the spirit of the times - the avant-garde forms of furniture. The sheets of glass in his furnace began to bend, twist, went in waves, ripples ... If earlier only glasses, vases and figurines were made of glass, now under the brand MY SON began to appear tables and chairs, cabinets and consoles. Moreover, these objects are designed to use them, and not just to admire. A revolution in technology is often born in the minds of a revolution, and vice versa.

Biography Vittorio is not much different from the tens and hundreds of stories of compatriots. Like a drop of water, it reflects all post-war Italy. His father was a farmer, a simple honest worker, burdened with numerous offspring.

Vittorio was the youngest son. Of the 13 children after the war, seven remained alive. Six girls and only son - Vittorio. Feed the family was very difficult. Vittorio went to the glass factory in 14 years old. At 15 he already supervised the workers who were older than him. Signor Libya with gratitude he recalls that it is a difficult and early working life, the experience of interacting with people still help him in life and in the creative process. When Vittorio decided to release the Ghost chair, he needed two years of technological development and a quarter of a million euros of investment. As a result, Ghost has become an icon of modern design, last year the "Ghost" turned 20 years old, and MY SON released anniversary commemorative collection. The chair is made of mirror glass. The history of glass, says Vittorio, looks like a history of luxury. Once poor people could not afford glass windows - it was a very expensive material for wealthy people. The echo of this luxury glass bears on itself and now. Put a single thing out of glass in the interior - and the space will be transformed. Glass object perfectly integrates into any interior - from the traditional-classic to the extremely modern. Earlier MY SON worked with design stars like Vico Magistretti, Ron Arad, Philip Stark. Recently, the company invites mostly young, unknown names. Unexpected ideas and solutions are what is important for the brand now. Since the main trend today is eclecticism, the interior can be made up of the most diverse things. "I see him like this," explains Vittorio. "There may be a sofa from B&B ITALIA, bed from BLUR, dressers from GIORGETTI and a chair from MY SON".
