The castle was built in the 18th century by the Counts of Roero, the Piedmontese nobility. Subsequently, he belonged to one of the branches of the genus, the Guarene family. Their names are here and the hills, and the street, and the settlement, the town of Guarene. Nearby are slightly larger Alba and Asti. The largest, Turin, is 60 kilometers away (Google counted an hour and seven minutes by car). This area is easy to find on a map of the Lange, Monferrato and Roero hills, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every autumn, it is flooded with gourmets — in search of white truffles. It is less common than black, it is more fragrant and more expensive. The world's most valuable white truffle is Piedmontese. And they begin to collect it in October. If you look, in the vicinity of Guarene a record number of restaurants, even for Italy. The best is generally considered to be in Castello di Gaurene. Rooms at the hotel should be booked in advance, because there are only 12. They are furnished with antiques and preserved the spirit of an aristocratic home. Until recently, the castle was a closed museum, and it could be visited only by agreement. Some of the chambers on the ground floor still function as a museum. You can see, for example, halls in the style of chinoiserie, a billiard room and the so-called Bishop's Hall. Around the castle is a magnificent garden, dating from the beginning of the XVIII century. There is a spa center. In order not to destroy the landscape and the appearance of the historical monument, the premises for it were cut down right in the rock, which serves as a kind of castle foundation.
