His first bestseller — a series of upholstered furniture — Saruyama — Toshiyuki Kita invented it back in 1989. Since then, of course, a lot has changed in design. (In 2013, by the way, the Saruyama family was supplemented with a new model.) But the designer claims that there are things and principles that will always be relevant. He says: “I believe in progress, but at the same time I think that we should not forget about the past. I am often told that I am the designer of the future — in the sense that my works are associated with a science fiction novel, a spaceship. In fact, I primarily start from what I see in nature. For example, I came up with a TV, the leg of which is shaped like a dolphin's tail. In nature, streamlined forms dominate, the human eye is used to them. Surrounded by such things you feel comfortable, they pacify. But it's not just psychology. With such items easier to live and designer. They do not oblige: you can put them against the wall, you can, in the center of the room. They allow you to work with space, organize it at your discretion. And the furniture of strict, well-defined forms only in a corner and squeeze.
