Today, decorators and furniture makers understand classics as a set of styles in architecture, in interior design and decorative and applied arts. Baroque, Rococo, Classicism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco are all conventionally referred to as classical in contrast to modern style, the foundations of which were laid by modernists in the 1920s. However, many of the works of the latter themselves received the status of the classics of the twentieth century, moved into the category of cult and became role models. The basis of expressiveness is materials: copper, marble, alabaster, leather, wool and silk. Hand finishing gives them a unique character. The picturesque alternation of light and dark spots on hand-polished copper is never repeated, and the color of toning applied with a brush, according to Massimo Castagna, will even depend on the weather in which the master works. In addition to the natural beauty, these materials have an important feature — time only paints them: a light stone can change a shade to a warmer and deeper one, bronze and copper are covered with a patina. Years of things created from them only add value, like antiques or museum pieces.
