Jakob + macfarlane: frédéric malle boutique in paris

In Paris, in the Mare quarter, a new boutique of selective perfumery Frederic Malle has opened. The authors of the interiors are the famous French architects, the duo of Jakob + MacFarlane. Founder of Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, the world's only perfume publisher, Frederic Malle says that he was impressed by the restaurant at the Pompidou Center (2000) - the famous Café Georgesfuturistic project Jakob + MacFarlane. Frederic Malle sold his brand to Estée Lauder and, according to his recognition, Leonard Lauder, chairman of the board of directors of Estée Lauder, is the only one who shares his views on "perfumery, the fate of the brand, and my life principles."

The single interior space is a sculpted wooden frame with various elements of decor, reminiscent of cave minerals or giant honeycombs in the hive. They serve as showcases for aromas.

The boutique is located on the first floor of the historic mansion. According to the plan of Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane, the interiors of the Frédéric Malle boutique should resemble an opened wooden box - it is as if visitors are peering into it from the street through a wide window. An unusual visual effect is created by mirror-polished steel, which decorated the floor, walls and ceiling of the store - in glossy surfaces, fancy compositions of light wood seem to multiply in space. Particular attention was paid to the interior lighting - in the walls there are small niches for spot and detailed lighting. In addition, in the improvised shelves are also tiny LED lights, responsible for individual bottles.

Glossy surfaces of the floor, walls and ceiling visually increase the area of a compact boutique - 24 square meters. m

Bureau Jakob + MacFarlane was founded in 1992 by architects Dominique Jacob (Dominique Jakob) and Brendan MacFarlan (Brendan MacFarlane). In addition to interior design, the duo is actively designing - among the last major projects - the building of Euronews headquarters in Lyon (2015), the FRAC contemporary art center in Orleans France (2013). Adherence to organic motifs, they demonstrate in the interior of the original bookstore Florence Loewy in Paris (2000) - shelves with books are made in the form of vertical honeycombs.

The boutique has “aromatic” walls - they contain small containers with aromas of the brand that attract customers.
