In his book “Journey Through Russia” of the 1860s, the famous French poet and traveler Theophile Gautier described St. Petersburg as follows: “Numerous canals ply the city, built like northern Venice, on many islands. However, these two cities have in common not only proximity to the big water, but also a special combination of mystery and ceremonialness. In recognition of the architect Vladimir Shkurinsky, it was the images of Venice and the project’s native city of St. Petersburg that became the basis for creating the interior of this apartment.
