It is known for certain that Mozart did not go to Odessa. But this absurd historical fact of Odessa does not bother. Because nothing else reflects the Odessa spirit as accurately as the elegant, light and ironic music of the brilliant Austrian. Mozart here is more than a composer, he, like Pushkin, is practically an honorary citizen. Recently, a sign appeared in the very center of the city above the main entrance of the elegant hotel: “Mozart”. The facade of the four-storeyed mansion was built according to the preserved sketches of the hotel of the beginning of the 19th century. The windows of the upper floors offer the best view of architectural Odessa, the magnificent Theater Square and the sea. According to the stories, in the hotel, which then wore the French name Renault, Pushkin lived during the South exile. In the rooms with a view of the opera house, he finished the “Odessa chapter” of Onegin's travels ... The stately, four-star hotel interior, decorated in the tradition of Austrian classicism, continues the overall solemn mood of Theater Square. Tsopf style, which entered the European fashion in the last years of the composer’s life, reminds of itself with a relief medallion with a recognizable Mozart profile and capricious stucco contour on the ceiling. The Austrian theme is also spelled out in the carving of chairs decorated with lace images of lire. These motifs directly cite the characteristic decor of furniture sets, popular at the end of the 18th century in the Austrian Empire. The atmosphere for the guest rooms of the hotel was ordered in Salzburg, it added a detailed historical variation on the theme of classicism. In a word, one can only guess where else the inhabitants of Odessa will love Mozart. However, if the description of the tourist route to the memorable places of Mozart appears in the local guidebook, remember - he did not go to Odessa anyway.
