Luxury becomes an urgent need when all other needs are already satisfied. This answer to the question of what exactly she understands as luxury was given by a woman who "dressed in the 20th century" - Coco Chanel. The 21st century makes its own adjustments: needs are a thing of the past, the era of pure aesthetics has arrived. Luxury as an art, as an opportunity and ability to be unique - in the version of our century. The epithet "luxurious" is increasingly applied to the interiors and to the fact that they are decorated. The interior of the house indicates the status of its owner. Representative functions determine the content - interior items and accessories are becoming obvious and unquestioning guides for luxury.

Historically, the cost of an item for the lion’s share of interest is determined by rarity. Exclusivity is directly related to the high price. Therefore, leaders among luxury goods are representatives of the limited edition. As a rule, they are stamps with a centuries-old history, for which limited circulation is a matter of honor, proof of their white bone and blue blood. The smaller the series, the more chances you have to be one of the few, if not the only, owner in the country of a thing that becomes more than unique. The charm of the limited series is not only in limitation with a plus sign, but also in quite obvious criteria - rare materials, unusual mechanisms, many months of painstaking manual work, which results in an object, every millimeter of which is a work of art.

The trend of recent years is not just precious materials, but using them in non-standard situations. For example, gold leaf is covered not only with dishes, but also ... kitchen work surfaces. Amethysts are used not only in jewelry, but also as a material for baths, and decorate tableware and even sofas with diamonds. Nevertheless, these parameters are quite understandable and logical. Diamonds are diamonds, gold is always gold.

The XXI century witnessed a new phenomenon - dozens, hundreds of thousands are worth the chair ... made of plastic, of bent metal pipes, of synthetic materials, which were not taken seriously before. Our century brought with it one more additional, but threatening to become the main criterion of luxury fittings - its design. When value is determined by the name of the creator, innovation in the form or mechanism of the functioning of the subject. Zhaah Hadid, Philip Stark, Ron Arad, Mark Newson, Karim Rashid, Tom dickson and others - the classics of modernity. Things made by them from the conveyor fall into museums and auctions, where estimate far exceeds half a million sums. By the way, the auction of Sotheby's and Christie's show that the purchase of such things is not only a demonstrative step, but also a profitable investment - the models from the first series from year to year only become more expensive and go for amounts comparable to elite real estate prices. A chair costing a lock - well, isn't it nonsense? Not. And this is just the beginning - who knows how much future generations will estimate it. So, in the struggle for a status house, all means are good - a rarity, an exclusivity, a jewel, and, we add, from the 21st century, design.
