The name of the city itself is ancient, derived from the Celtic (II century AD) designation of the customs office. So we can say that business and Zurich are even historically about the same thing.
The city itself is as solid as modern. It used to be business centers were built up with heavy, pompous, lurid buildings in the manner of ancient palaces. Modern office skyscrapers made of glass and steel are apologists of futurism, rather resemble science fiction illustrations. Zurich Financial District (Business District) from the second group. The money here is made in an extremely minimalist environment.
To immediately feel the local business style, it makes sense to stay in one of the design hotels. For example, in Hotel Greulich. It is 1.5 km from the business center.
A third of the population of Zurich are foreigners, mostly Germans and Italians. No wonder that hotels here are created by multinational teams. The Hotel Greulich was designed by architects Markus Schaefle, Franz Romero, designer Jean Pfaff and landscape architect Gunter Vogt. Previously, where the hotel is now, there was a residential building with artists' workshops. Romero and Sheffle faceless house transformed - created a curved, ribbon-like line of the facade, the texture pimply, resembling eel skin. Behind the facade there are only 18 rooms (therefore, it is better to think about booking in advance, often there are no places and it is not foreseen) and a minimum of public areas - a lobby, a restaurant and a cigar room.
The interiors are designed in soothing, neutral tones, with an emphasis on natural materials, wood primarily. The first is explained by the fact that Jean Pfaff, the designer responsible for the interior, was actively engaged in painting in the past in the spirit of our sixties - snow-white backgrounds plus lonely thoughtful compositions. So monochrome at Pfaff - a fad. The tree is rather part of the eastern - namely, Japanese - aesthetics. Individual interior solutions, such as room zoning, and even very low beds, resembling futons (cotton mattresses on which the Japanese sleep), also appeal to Japan.
The rooms open onto a terrace, from which you can get ... to the forest. Yes, yes, to the real forest, birch. It was precisely white birch trees that landscape architect Günther Vogt decided to plant the inner courtyard of the hotel - their white and gray color was in harmony with the silver-brown environment.
