Гаэтано He was walking He became famous in 1969 after the Milan Furniture Salon, where he presented a series of UP chairs from tightly compressed polyurethane foam. He was walking proposed a completely revolutionary idea: it was worth breaking the plastic packaging, and the briquette 10 centimeters thick turned into a comfortable chair. Since then, the designer has only strengthened his fame as an ironic genius who adores new materials. Its principles He was walking implements and in the field of architecture. For example, in Avignon, he built the Pavillon Gourmand restaurant - six Eskimo igloo-like pavilions made of pliable translucent silicone. Salon magazine designer told how to get more positive impressions from lifeSALON: Your things are very ironic. How seriously do you take the process of creativity? - The irony provokes sensations. If when you look at a chair, people smile - this is progress, because the chair is no longer just a comfortable piece of furniture to sit on. Design is now not only a matter of comfort, it has become a form of entertainment, a way to think and express oneself. Modern man is faced with problems from all sides, and if we can bring more joy, more bright colors, more sensuality into our lives, we will definitely become happier.S: When you look at your subjects, you get the feeling that they come from the 60s, when the world was overwhelmed with a wave of joyful experiences ... - For me, the sixties are above all an incredible leap in technology. Materials such as plastic or polyurethane foam are products of the sixties. The possibilities of their use are almost unlimited. They can be firm and at the same time soft, transparent and colored - in short, they are feminine in their essence, and the designer should treat them accordingly.S: What do you mean? - The human brain is divided into two parts: male and female. Our culture over the past five thousand years, considered the female part of the weak, and the male - strong. I think that today we have grown to realize: the feminine way of thinking is more perfect. Female consciousness is associated with joy, flexibility, sensuality, while masculine tends to reproduce the same. For a long time, the male principle dominated in architecture: a minimum of colors, strict geometry of lines, walls of durable materials. The "female" building may be completely different. For example, if you build a building from flexible, elastic materials, it will survive during an earthquake. Ideas like this appear just when you use the female half of the brain.S: If I understand correctly, you do not like minimalism precisely because this style is so reserved-masculine ... - Partly and therefore. The essence of minimalism is not in the expression of emotions, but in saving money. Doing things in the spirit of minimalism is easy, the problem is that this style does not reflect reality. Indeed, the reality around us is not minimalistic, on the contrary, it is very, very complex.S: You recently created a collection called Nobody's Perfect. Items of the same shape are made of plastic of different composition and color. What are the imperfections of these subjects? - I tried to show that no one, no designer can create a perfect piece of perfect shape or color. The dignity of this collection is in error. If you can turn a mistake into something that testifies to the quality of the product, then you create a new concept of beauty. The essence of this collection is that all things are beautiful in their own way.
