SALON: Why do you think kitchens need such a huge work surface, which also tends to constantly grow?
- The level of kitchens is now very high, and the working surface is a kind of face of the company. Therefore, size certainly matters. In addition, buyers tend to get exactly the big kitchen. You know, it's like with cars: the bigger the car, the greater the desire to buy it.
S: One of the parts of the kitchen made by your studio for SCIC are cabinets that are significantly taller than a man. How are they supposed to be used?
- High cabinets - this is something metaphysical, unusual. And, of course, completely different from all that was done in the design before. This is our brand, confirming the importance of what we have done in design. In terms of practical application, we sought to rationally use the entire wall so that there were no empty spaces. In addition, you can put up items that are used infrequently.
S: Explaining some practical things, you often use the beauty of design as an argument. Will we come in this way in the future to the kitchens, which you can only look at?
- The evolution of kitchens resembles the evolution of society. Our life is changing, and what will this lead in the future - who knows? Take the simplest - the chair. Chairs - countless. If you decide to make a new chair, it must be unusual and at the same time remain a chair. You will not look at him standing, you must sit on it. There are new materials, new technologies. If it were not for this, the manufacturers of the chairs would have trampled on one place. As for kitchens ... Some new solutions will emerge that will give impetus to new development. It is not excluded that the result of this development will be the kitchen, designed only to look at them. Design - provocation? Well, that's interesting too.
S: What's new in your new kitchen?
- Our task was to create something very strong in terms of design. And we made a kitchen, consisting not of numerous modules, as was customary before, but only of two main parts. The first is the “island”, to which, if necessary, a metal “back” is fastened (all wires are hidden in it), and the second is a storage system. The main thing here is the separation of basic elements. In this aspect, the design solution is even emptiness.
S: Is the dining table also not in the usual place?
- This is a mental decision. We made the table a continuation of the kitchen, so that there was no separation between those who cook and those who sit at the table. And you can do anything for him: write, draw, work. Yes, just sit, chat with friends ... S: By the way, the kitchen table in this case looks more like a table from the living room: it is made of expensive wood and polished. Is it convenient? - Now there is such a tendency: the tree should be either completely light (then the oak is taken), or completely dark (wenge or gray oak). Cherry, walnut out of fashion ...
S: What is the reason?
- People want something warmer.
S: What does it mean to you Italians, the kitchen?
- For us, the kitchen is very important. The kitchen is the atmosphere. Cuisine is a reflection of how we perceive life. After all, in our dynamic world, cuisine is practically the only place where you rest. Here we invite friends. Here we cook together, have lunch, talk ... Perhaps the point is that we, the Latins, attach great importance to food. In other words, a kitchen is a huge number of functions combined together, this is a world in itself ...S: By the way, do you often have to cook yourself?
- Rarely enough. I get a good rice with different seasonings ... But usually I dine in a restaurant.
