The Great Hall of the Catherine Palace, designed by Francesco – Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the middle of the 18th century, was intended for official receptions, celebrations, balls and masquerades. Its walls are 47.5 meters long, cut by huge windows, completely decorated with figured gilded carvings. In total, the decoration of the palace took 100 kilograms of pure gold! The precious metal from century to century personified the glory and power of the supreme power, and its brilliance reminded of the light of the sun and the radiance of the high worlds.
