In an interview with our magazine one of the most famous american designers told about her favorite color, about films that she likes, and about the principles of creating furniture compositions

About your favorite hotel “This is probably Villa Feltrinelli on Lake Garda. In general, Lake Garda is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The hotel itself is very small and with excellent service. I celebrated my birthday there twice. ”

About favorite color “I love green. I think this is largely due to the fact that I grew up in California. For me, this is a natural choice, because green is a permanent backdrop in California. In this color there is the energy of life. At the moment my favorite shade is gray-green. ”

About the new McQuire collection “I was thinking about geometric shapes. For me it was a new idea. The oval, divided in half, became two Lunette sofas, and the full oval became the Ellipse table. The basis of the chair Fretwork Lounge Chair lay octagon shape. The chair turned out in a complex lattice frame, but inside it is very simple - just soft pillows. ”

About favorite movies “Probably, the“ Conformist ”by Bertolucci or“ The Garden of the Finzi Contini ”by Vittorio de Sica are films that I can watch with the sound turned off. They have beautiful scenery, they have elegance. And, of course, English films. If I had a crazy day, I can turn on something like “At the end of the day”, “Reason and Feelings”, “Chariots of Fire” - films about the period when life was really beautiful. ”

About addiction to ovals “I think this is a very feminine form. This is the shape of the nail, palm, head. When I draw something, I start with a smooth line, with an oval. Over time, I realized that this is my favorite geometric shape. She is beautiful, and there is movement in her. When I connected several ovals together, the back of the Bracelet chair turned out. This is perhaps the most recognizable object that I created. "

About the sense of proportion “When I invent an object, I see it entirely - its color, size, materials ... And only then I make a watercolor sketch. When they ask me how I determine the proportions of an object, I usually answer: “Throughout my life, I only did what I looked at and measured. I am a living centimeter. "

About Lady’s Desk Dressing Table “This is a table of my dreams. He stands in my bathroom. The inside of the drawers is covered in velvet. You put a pearl necklace, and it looks amazing. I made the grooves on the facade, because a large flat wooden surface is not interesting. When there is a different depth, there is a play of light and shadow. ”
