The new building of the largest private non-profit university in Germany is located relatively close to the center of Düsseldorf in the Derendorf district. Here, on the site of the former railroad freight station, the multifunctional quarter Le Quartier Central has already been almost completed, designed to return the city to an impressive territory and restore lost connections between the three neighboring districts.

The angularly futuristic shape of the academic building is the trademark of Jürgen Meier. At the same time, she demonstrates an attempt by architects to rethink the industrial past of a site with railway tracks, bridges and ramps. Actively protruding consoles, balconies and stairs create a lot of points of contact with elements of the environment (the most conspicuous console in general practically rests against the neighboring bridge) at different levels, some of which also serve as effective escape routes. Metal “tapes” on the facades form together with fragments of glazing a whimsical graphic design, thus completing the technocratic image.

The area of ​​the building is 8000 square meters. m, its audience will take about 1,500 students and teachers. Training spaces are occupied by the lower four tiers, they are compactly placed around a spacious lobby and a spectacular sculptural staircase. With its complex form, it logically continues external solutions. The upper floor is fully allocated for the administrative zone and information center. Neutral white was chosen as the base color for the interior, supporting the overall modernist spirit of the building.
