Table in memory of the twin towers

The Earth table was designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano for the Italian brand Riva 1920. Its iron base symbolizes the wreckage of the twin towers in New York: the interlacing of rebars that remained under the fragments of collapsed twin towers. The tabletop is made of fragments of a petrified Kauri tree that has lain for thousands of years in the swamps of New Zealand. The fragments are connected by resin and resemble a map of the globe. The table is designed to open a new World Trade Center (WTC) building. The furniture was put up for auction, the money from which is intended for the children of the Italian-American firefighters who died during the crash of the twin towers. “The design idea is inspired by the theme of peace and unity of nations, where there is no place for prejudices, differences by class or race,” say the manufacturers.
