Hella jongerius: vitra color machine

The Swiss furniture brand Vitra is a traditional participant in Milan Design Week. The company promotes modern design, honors the modernist heritage of the twentieth century and positions itself as an optimizer of public and private interiors.

This year Vitra presented a large-scale installation “The Color Machine” in Milan, performed by one of the most original women designers Hella Jongerius in collaboration with the Dutch Bass and Miller van Tol. “Color Machine” - a palette of colors and fabrics from the Vitra’s Color and Material Library. “The concept is based on four natural elements: red, fiery, green and dark,” says Jongerius. A library is a living organism in which there are no static colors and everything changes extremely quickly. ”

Four spinning tops on the floor symbolize four contrasting color palettes: from bright red to earthy gray. There are nine colored wheels suspended from the ceiling, made up of Vitra furniture parts, including the twentieth century hits: the base of the table, designed by French modernist Jean Prouvé, and the chair by the Americans Charles and Ray Imz.

A breathtaking spectacle is the result of Hella Jongerius and Vitra's many years of collaboration. The goal is not only to demonstrate the latest achievements of the company, but also to show scientific and practical developments in the field of design and its adaptation to modern interiors. “This is a universal system with which you can easily create a new environment and space for offices, private houses and public spaces,” says the chief designer of the brand, Eckart Mace, about the installation. The installation is located in CasaVitra, a special company space on Pietro Maroncelli Street, in the Corso Como area.
