Stokke steps: a chair that grows

The Stokke® Steps ™ modular concept, developed by the Norwegian company Stokke®, has been awarded the Red Dot prize in the Best of the Best category. The prestigious award (already the third in the history of Stokke®) was awarded for a rational and advanced design. Specialists of the brand come up with transformers that grow with the child, step by step adapting to its changing needs and growth. The brand's assets include such masterpieces of designer thought as a cot, which turns into a sofa, or a changing table, which becomes, over time, a desk. Objects can serve for a long time also because successful constructive ideas are combined with excellent workmanship: things are durable, they do not break or wear out.

Natural wood combined with white color plus concise, verified lines - the Stokke® Steps ™ chair can certainly be called a worthy example of Scandinavian design.

One of the company's achievements is the Stokke® Steps ™ system, created in collaboration with the Norwegian studio Permafrost Desing. The authors do not accidentally call this development "system." It includes several components, which makes it possible to use the seat from the first days of a child’s life up to school age - up to about ten years.

Functions of the model extend additional elements: Stokke® Steps ™ Baby Set seat-insert, Stokke® Steps ™ Baby Set Tray tray, Stokke® Steps ™ Bouncer chaise lounge.

At the heart of the system is a high modular chair. For a newborn, it is proposed to combine it with the Stokke® Steps ™ Bouncer chaise lounge (it can be used by itself). When the child begins to sit confidently, the Stokke® Steps ™ Baby Set seat-insert is installed: the chair is pushed into the common table or supplemented with a tray of the Stokke® Steps ™ Baby Set Tray. After the need for a soft insert disappears, the chair, which is easily, without tools, adjustable in height and depth, continues to grow. An adjustable footrest helps the child to climb on the chair and get off of it on its own. The curved seat back allows you to comfortably sit at the "adult" table - lunch, do homework, draw.

In 2016, the model is available in new tints, from light to dark, which allows it to become an organic part of the interior ensemble.

The functional component is not the only advantage of the development, it also attracts with its appearance. Stokke® translates the values of Scandinavian design - a phenomenon that emerged in Northern Europe in the post-war years and today is experiencing a new rise in popularity. Stokke® Steps ™ high chair, made of solid beech, demonstrates the beautiful natural texture of the material, verified proportions, laconic clean lines - it is obvious that the masters of the company honor the traditions of Alvar Aalto, Hans Wegner, Bruno Mathsson. This year, the brand has expanded its range: now you can choose the tone of wood to your own taste, from soft bleached to complex dark. And thus make the child seat an organic part of the interior ensemble.

The system is suitable for a child, starting from the very birth: even a baby who does not know how to sit, it allows you to raise to the level of an "adult" table.

“Good design starts and ends at the consumer level. The emergence of a new product is justified only if it improves the quality of one's life, big or small, says Hilda Angelfoss, director of innovation at Stokke®. - From our point of view, design is a craft. Excellent results are achieved through hard work and a continuous design process. It is necessary to thoroughly work out all the details and functions, without losing sight of the overall picture. ”
