Studio drift: a flight of drones over miami

Lonneke Gordin and Ralph Nauta, Amsterdam Drift Studio, launched 300 luminous drones in the sky over Miami. Their dance imitated the natural flight of a flock of birds. Coherent movements are set by algorithms - the studio often uses them in its work.

“In animation and virtual reality, you can simulate anything, but we think the importance is to create real impressions, what you can feel and see with your own eyes in the real world, not just on the screen,” says Loneke Gordin. The flying sculpture of Franchise Freedom was shown at the Art Miami fair with the support of BMW, the Faena Hotel Miami Beach hotel and the PACE gallery.
