A graduate of the National School of Art of Bourges in 1984, he inherited sensuality and eye of the sculptor from his father, the artist Mark Sharpen. However, six years after receiving a diploma, Pierre Charpin finally falls in love with the subject design and focuses his work on pieces of furniture and decor.

“I never make a distinction between industrial design and gallery unicats,” says Sharpen. In 1998, CIRVA (International Center for Research in the Field of Glass and Plastic Arts) in Marseille released its series of glass vessels. In Valoris, two years later, he is exhibiting as a ceramist. His poetic gift has been noted by famous brands made in Italy, such as Zanotta and Alessi. And, of course, the talented compatriot is fostered by the flagship of the French furniture industry - the company Ligne Roset.

Pierre Charpen teaches at the High School of Art and Design in Reims, and later at the forge of young professionals for the luxury industry - ECAL School in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2005, his Triplo vase for Venini was nominated for the Compasso d'Oro award. In 2010, the Museum of Decorative Art in Paris and the Milan Design Museum Triennale entrust it to the set design of their exhibitions. The objects of Sharpen fall into the collections of European museums and private collections, and in 2014 the JRP Ringier publishes the first monograph: Pierre Charpin.
