Architect Igor Gremitsky made an apartment in Petersburg, the interior of which reminds of the palaces of the Petrovsky and Catherine eras: rocaille architectural details, ceiling paintings on ancient plots, silk-covered walls and parquet flooring

The owners of this apartment in St. Petersburg, planning the interior in a classic style, ordered rococo furniture at the best European factories. With the first architect did not work out, and then they invited Igor Gremitsky. “Customers told me about their preferences,” the architect recalls, “that they would like a style close to the rococo style, fairly clean and seasoned. It turned out that the furniture they have already ordered and will need to fit it into the interior. In addition, they asked to leave the stained glass windows, which were already there. ” They were stylistically knocked out, but they managed to solve this problem: now they don’t attract attention in the densely and palacely richly decorated interior. By the way, architect Igor Gremitsky - The author of a unique private mansion near St. Petersburg (published in SALON-interior № 142).

This apartment - in style and level of execution - is the successor of that project, a real palace in miniature. All rooms are strung on one axis; entrance is located in the center. To the right of the entrance hall - public areas, to the left - private. (And it is vaguely reminiscent of the layout of the palace, stretched horizontally, with the central entrance.) Everything is logical and convenient. From the architectural arsenal of the 18th century, only what was really suitable for this apartment and the lifestyle of this family was chosen. There is nothing artificial. For example, there are no suites typical of the palaces of that time. Or, for example, the space of the dining room-kitchen is decided as common, and this is an invention of the twentieth century.

The color scheme is in the tradition of the Rococo style. It varies from peach golden in the living room to light turquoise with sky blue in the master bedroom. There are many more similar color solutions - creamy with gold tones in the guest room, dense blue with gold and white in the study ...

Murals in this interior play an important role. Ceiling paintings on scenes from Roman mythology are not just an element of style, but also a functional device: they raise the level of the ceiling. Ceiling mirrors with chandeliers in the center reinforce this effect. And finally, wall painting in the spirit of "ancient ruins" by Claude Lorrain completes the impression: it seems that the painting is not a painting, but a wall on which the image is painted. Therefore, the apartment seems to be like a house: the paintings create the illusion of a park spreading outside the windows of the palace.

Project author Igor Gremitsky: “We made the interior in the style of palace classics. As a leading style chose Rococo. Here, in a palace-like dense decor - paintings, stucco, parquet floor, mirrors. At the same time, the level of comfort meets the requirements of a modern person. ”
