Turin is a special city for Italy and Italian design. Energetic, ready to oppose himself to Milan. The city of the Italian automotive industry, big business and wealthy collectors. Operae Independent Design Fair has been held here for several years. The motto of the fair is the phrase of designer Enzo Mari: "The quality of the project determines the changes in culture that it causes, even if it is modest in itself."
Superego, Milan, Italy. Ferrero1947, Turin, Italy. Maniera, Brussels, Belgium. Camp Design Gallery, Milan, Italy. Great Design Gallery, Paris, France.Designers participate - 40 young bureaus, galleries - 14 dealers, mostly Italians, one each from the UK, France, Belgium and Lebanon. Plus two joint projects LAB3 and Macra, which are supported by the Chamber of Commerce of Turin. This year, the curator of the fair is Alice Lichtenstein, designer, cultural artist and author of the popular blog aliceinwhateverilly.com. Of course, Operae doesn't have glamorous exhibitions like PAD, Nomad or Design Miami, but independent and obviously young design has its advantages. Prices are affordable, and designers are ready to customize their objects.
