Oitoemponto: golden rooms

Дуэт Oitoemponto, португалец Артур Миранда и француз Жак Бек, рассказали как они работали над виллой в Порту в духе модного тренда mix&match.

“In the designer’s work, skill and education are of decisive importance,” Arthur and Jacques expressed their opinions to us. - After all, this is a technical profession, without special knowledge in it in any way. So just having good taste is not enough. And in general - what is good taste? Where are his criteria? Our new work is in the vicinity of Porto. The villa was built in the 1940s. The main task was to maintain the atmosphere of the time of creation in the interiors. In the decoration we used a lot of expensive wood and even more marble, we completed the doors in matte varnish with brass fittings. In this case, the subject content is collected from different horizons. We love the mix, this is a proven technique that we apply from project to project. We also like the feeling of being worn, as if things and the interior have already lived for some time. Of course, all this is always complemented by modern art. ”

By definition, the authors of the reconstruction, the villa in Portuguese Porto built in the "timeless Californian style." The building faces the sea, which ensures its inhabitants a holiday mood all year round.

“The area of the villa is 700 sq. M. m. But even so rich meters we tried to make it visually more spacious. For this, voids were left in the interiors, mirrors were installed in the right places. They did not shrink: they preferred one large soft group to two small ones. And we must remember that there is no light without a shadow. Brightly lit corners must be interleaved by darker, then the rooms will become more interesting. The criteria for luxury, however trite it may sound, are different for everyone. For someone, the more gold the better, the works of art are important for another. We try to strike a balance between the client’s lifestyle and our ideal. A luxurious interior is, above all, a comfortable interior. ”

In one of the salons autos played the African theme: paint of the desert, Berber carpet, coffee table Gazelle (Galerie Yves Gastou, Paris). The vintage armchair is upholstered in a Rubelli tiger-patterned fabric.

The main distinctive feature of their style decorators call work with antiques. Arthur and Jacques are regulars of the auctions. They claim that their favorite occupation is to consider presales catalogs. Things with a history - from different centuries and decades - are represented in each of their projects. “We are consistent. We love the design of the middle of the 20th century, however classic items, exquisite or, on the contrary, kitsch, always find a place in our projects. Here is a terribly funny Gazelle table in one of the salons. A specimen with a base in the form of an animal's head with huge horns was discovered in Paris, in Galerie Yves Gastou. At least half of the furnishings - furniture, lamps and carpets - we design ourselves. ”

Sliding doors create the effect of an enfilade.

As the authors say, they prefer a monochrome base. “We love the combination of black and white. But we do not suffer from color phobia: all colors are good, provided that they are used in the correct proportions. The palette varies depending on the tastes of the client and location. In this case, the proximity of the sea led us to an abundance of white. As in many of our projects, here you can see pleasant natural colors, shades of foliage from different seasons: from spring yellowish-green to saturated summer, nuances of sand, stone, sea wave. The landscape outside the window is a full component of the interior, the palette is coordinated with it ”.

Above the fireplace in the decoration of a valuable stone of two varieties - a mirror from Galerie Van Der Straeten. Right floor lamp, diz. A. Jacobsen for Louis Poulsen - a classic design XX. Cleverly placed black accents add expressiveness to the interior. For the walls in some rooms, designers chose wallpaper with straw and horsehair. Curbstones (diz. Oitoemponto) combine rosewood and glossy varnish. Works of modern art form an expressive contrast with laced arabesques of the ceiling and a respectable staircase with chiseled balusters. Wallpaper handmade by the British brand De Gournay defined the palette and calm mood in the dining room. The black and white work of S. Short reinforces the statics and adds a modern note to the classical environment. A white marble staircase leads to the lower level, to the spa area. Transparent fencing in a frame made of brass, along with the steps opening behind it, looks like a work of modern art. The office is settled symmetrically: there are two Raphaël armchairs mirrored at the table: they were created for the office of the general director of PTT in 1973. The relief of the ceiling is repeated in the carpet in the “reverse” version: the recessed parts are in place of convex fragments and vice versa. Mustard tone successfully complemented by dark purple. "Summer Room" by the pool. The facades of the cabinets, wittily finished with bleached floorboard, hide the kitchen equipment. Table, diz. E. Saarinen, chairs, diz. G. Bertoya, Knoll. The “summer room” is furnished with Ralph Lauren sofas. The alternation of strips of marble of different varieties creates a bright effect. The master bathroom is made in light marble. Next - wardrobe. The kitchen has an island layout. The view from the living room to the pool and the "summer room". For outdoor space, G. Bertoi, Knoll. Turquoise upholstery matched with a touch of water in the pool. Magnificent doors with openwork shutters were updated according to all the rules of restoration art. In the parade hall, guests are greeted with a carpet with a beautiful geometric pattern. It was made to order by the design authors of the project, based on the work of American artist F. Stella. The “summer room” is located on the same level as the swimming pool and has the same floor covering as the terrace. Polished marble steps shines in the sun.
