The Bouncy Layers collection (English “elastic layers”) was created for the Home Living Boundless Design exhibition, organized by the Chinese company KUKA, a manufacturer of sofas and armchairs from Hangzhou. Nendo got the topic “Intellect”, in which the designer decided to study the concept of softness in the production of furniture and look at it in a new way.

Instead of the usual polyurethane foam, down filler, springs or pillows - all that makes furniture comfortable - used 1.5 mm thick polycarbonate sheets. The elasticity of the seat depends on the angle at which the sheets are bent, their number and the distance between them. Changing these parameters, you can make the chairs more or less "soft", despite the initially rigid material.

The collection can be seen at the exhibition in the Zhejiang Art Museum in China until June 11, 2017.
