This year, one of the main sources of inspiration for the Dutch brand Moooi is extinct animals. They were devoted to the original exhibition for Milan Design Week and new collections, including carpets, which produces Moooi Carpets.

The animals, which we will no longer see, are reminiscent of prints in the form of tentacles of a deep-water squid, the plumage of the Dodo bird, the skins of exterminated zebra of quagga. So, one of the bright models of Calligraphy Bird is dedicated to the mating dance of the bird of paradise: shades of bright collars and lush tail feathers were transferred to the carpet. In total, the collection includes 10 carpets.

The design of the collection is based on archival drawings created by illustrators such as Jacques Barraban (Jacques Barraban, 1767–1809). “We studied museums around the world and found the most incredible drawings of extinct animals documented by researchers on their travels. We were able to borrow them to demonstrate in Milan, ”says designer Marcel Wanders, founder of Moooi.
