Architect Svetlana Gerasimova and a decorator Ekaterina Larionova - fans of the English colonial style. In this mansion near Moscow, he plays the first violin
At to queen victoria aristocrats decorated their rooms with exotic wood, carved tables, screens, chests, porcelain — in short, with all the interior wealth brought from China and India. It was the heyday of the English colonial style, which, if it went out of fashion, it was only temporary. He always returned and always managed to conform to the spirit of the times. Is it because, with all its specificity, it can be very different? It can be varied with success, somewhere, for example, bringing to the fore a respectable component of the style, somewhere - cozy, and somewhere - romantic ... At least, the authors of this interior have worked in this way with the colonial style. . “I call this house the house of parts,” says Svetlana Gerasimova- in it, each vase and statuette are significant. There is an expression “design at your fingertips”, and it is just applicable to this interior, which was formed as a result of a scrupulous selection of furniture, lamps, clocks, paintings, carpets, laces, and so on. ”
The layout of the house is classical: on the first floor there are public premises, on the second - bedrooms. (There is also a basement floor where the billiard room and hookah room are located.) Living room - a room of 60 sq. M. m, which seems even more due to the solid glazing and high ceilings. The authors of the project decided to emphasize these merits with the help of light wallpaper with imitation of craquelure and a very high - 40 cm - ceiling border. The stylized Indian border pattern is exquisitely combined with the lace ornaments of the ceiling lamp, mirror and coffee table (it is made from a carved wooden screen that Catherine bought in India). A lamp with a diameter of almost a meter, commensurate with the room, reviewing and discarding many options, eventually found in Moscow. The ceiling with lights and inserts of stained glass as if brings together the interior of the living room together. “We decided to make art-nouveau stained glass windows,” recalls Svetlana Gerasimova. “And look how successfully the art nouveau patterns are combined with the oriental floral patterns.” Another success can be considered the selection of furniture. This is modern style furniture. FENDI CASAvery imposing, low-slung. It has a similar story: in a given context, it acquired a somewhat oriental sound. “Ethnics should be diluted,” says Svetlana, “otherwise you can overdo it as with spices.” For example, the strip is perfectly combined with fancy ethnic ornaments. We have a lot of stripes here. These include textile ribbed upholstery, flutes on the fireplace portal, and the strip itself in draperies. It is important that the strip here is implicit, low-key. ” In addition to ethnic motifs and the omnipresent strip, the owner’s office embodies another important principle of this interior: a lot of wood with beautiful textures. (This, incidentally, was the main wish of the owners.) Here the authors of the project combined a variety of wood types - the ceiling of oak stained in walnut, the floor of merbau, walnut shelves, tables of exotic wood. Intentionally selected different shades so that the furniture did not look like “from one set”, but the interior as a whole - comfortable and habitable.
A separate theme is the decorative decision of the bedroom: curtains, bedspread, pillows in this room are decorated with handmade lace. From the point of view of style, this is already a movement towards Provence, a departure from the given English colonial. However, it is worth remembering that the most spectacular interiors are obtained at the intersection of styles. Now one artistic fact has become more.
Project author Ekaterina Larionova: “For the style we have chosen - the English colonial - the accessories are very important. Much of what you see here I brought from India and China. Something redone. For example, a table was made of a carved screen. Similar things are perfectly combined in the interior with brand European furniture. ”
