Until the middle of the 20th century, bankers sat in the building that the Hotel de Rome now occupies. Recently, a new restaurant has opened here, the title of which — La Banca — is reflected in history. The name, like the kitchen, with an obvious Italian accent

An elegant palazzo in the main street of Berenstrasse was built in the 80s of the XIX century by architect Ludwig Heim. The facade of the building vividly recalls the Roman palaces: the first floor is decorated with rust, imitating rough stone, the second is decorated with a slender row of Corinthian columns. In the 19th century, banks were built in the first place, it was a kind of canon. The archives contain photographs of old interiors with respectable furniture made of carved oak and stained glass chandeliers. All this died during the Second World War.
When the building was bought by hotelier Sir Rocco Forte (Rocco Forte Hotels group), it was restored and rebuilt as a hotel. The name she was given by Italian associations. In the former bank vault (by the way, the armored door remained) they made a SPA-center, decorated by the famous London designer Nina Campbell. The original mosaic with gold smalt on the ceiling reminds of the past (it has been preserved from banking times). On the ground floor, where the clerks used to sit, is now the reception and a new restaurant with the characteristic name La Banca. It opened last November. Its interior, like all the best hotel rooms (33 suites), was designed by the decorator Olga Polizzi, the sister of Sir Rocco Forte. The main decoration of the restaurant at the moment is the light installations of a talented young American Olivia Steele. They reflect the nature of the dishes served here from chef Fulvio Pierangeli. This is Italian fusion-based cuisine based on farm products and in the most unexpected flavor combinations.
