SALON: Philip, what about your concept? For
- The idea may seem strange at first. I thought that the sofa, as the main "foundation" of human communication, should contribute as much as possible to a comfortable pastime. I thought that it was necessary to take several elements, as if the details of the designer, in different colors and make of them different combinations. For a conversation with two, three, four together and so on ... I was terribly glad that I was allowed to use different colors. Not only black, gray and brown, as is usually the case with sofas (laughs. -SALON). Thus, the interior can be given color, to diversify it.
S: What are the most current trends in world design?
- Let me tell you about myself. I grew up in Nice - a city where there are many churches, old houses ... (By the way, there were always many rich Russians there, and this influenced the appearance and life of the city, including the construction of temples.) My grandmother’s house had the most ordinary things in classic style - not design masterpieces. And although I, having become a designer, fell firmly in love with the modern style, a little like the Nice of my childhood, I kept this warm, humane attitude to things that is accepted in the south of France. I like simple silhouettes, friendly, not frightening pathos design, convenience, modesty, if you want. The design should be for many, not for some.
S: How do you live in Milan, the capital of design?
- I have a small housing, masterpieces from the museums of modern art will not fit there (laughs - SALON). Furniture purchased on occasion, often at flea markets. Only with accessories I allow myself to glam.
S: Have you been to Moscow? What did you like?
- GUM and cafe "Pushkin". It's fantastic!
