The art director of the concern Jumbo Collection, which received the right to produce the interior line Gianfranco Ferré Home, talks about the revival of the style of the legendary fashion designer.

For many years, on the business card Gianfranco Ferre was listed as "architect". A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytechnic, he became famous as a fashion designer and founder of his own fashion house. Critics called him a fashion architect and compared him to Frank Lloyd Wright for the structural clarity of the silhouettes. Today, the style of the great couturier revives interior designer Livio Ballabio, art director of the furniture concern Jumbo Collection. Under his leadership, the debut collection was created under the brand GIANFRANCO FERRÉ HOME. “Together with the designers of the fashion brand, we carefully studied the heritage of the maestro,” tells Livio Ballabio. “We looked at hundreds of sketches, photographs, fabrics. It was textiles that gave us a special source of inspiration. The visiting card of the House FERRÉ is a thin-woolen woolen fabric, the so-called "Prince of Wales". The son of Queen Victoria, the future monarch Edward VII, introduced her into fashion. Since then, she has always been an attribute of the English style that Ferre loved to address. We used this fabric in upholstery, dressers and even mirrors. It must be said that Ferre had to do with geometric patterns characteristic of men's suits. The color scheme corresponds to his preferences: it is dark blue and smoky gray. ” The image of the English classics is formed not only by the fabric, but also by the elements of the Chippendale style (the ornate carving of the mirror frames, the through backs of the chairs, the bent legs) and the unobtrusive colonial motifs, without which English interiors are unthinkable. “Now there are about 40 items in the collection, but we will expand it: bedding, dishes, accessories will appear. They will be available in Moscow, where Gianfranco Ferré Home is represented by Casa Ricca, ”Livio Ballabio shares his plans.
