John Crowell flew in from London to tell the readers of SALON-interior magazine about fabrics from the New Couture III collection. John, like a juggler, took out fabrics one more luxurious with another - with natural pearls, with rhinestones ...

- Yes this is true! But believe me as a designer: the role of the fabric in the modern interior is still not fully appreciated, and I would like to correct this situation. In the old days, people really knew a lot about interior design with fabrics - they covered walls, furniture, screens, and windows draped. In England, perfected the palette of shades of red and green, which, as you know, are perfectly combined with each other. But not any red and not any green. As a rule, it is muffled, as if powdered colors. Silk should be durable, with an elegant, comfortable for perception ornament. For example, as here - floral patterns, embroidered with gold or silver thread on silk and velvet.
S: Where are the ornaments from?
- They are created on the basis of old patterns and taking into account old technologies. This is embroidery by hand. In particular, natural, grown pearls, including the beautiful drop-shaped form, which was so valued in the old days. And brilliant as diamonds, crystals are SWAROVSKI rhinestones. This silk fabric is certainly not for upholstery. It drapes beautifully and will be good in rooms with high ceilings, windows on the floor, that is, where you can show the beauty of a long canvas of fabric.
S: Do you prefer light colors?
- Color is a matter of mood. One mood in the interior gives light beige and blue silk with pearls and rhinestones and quite another - wine red velvet. Morning joyful or evening solemn mood ...
S: How do you imagine the perfect interior?
- It may be different. Fortunately, we live in eclectic times, and this is a very creative method - you can mix different things beautifully. I think that in the ideal interior there should be handmade items, some things with noticeably aged textures. And he must be exactly aligned in color. Those same English powdered colors ... And people, of course! Without people, no interior can claim to be the ideal.
