Once on this place, not far from Alexandrovsky Park, there was the estate of Giacomo Quarenghi, the court architect of Catherine II. Now here is a trendy restaurant, in the interiors of which the classic atmosphere of an old mansion is recreated. The architecture of the building is meticulously reproduced according to old drawings and drawings, but its internal space is the result of the interaction of historical form and new functional content. From the old house only a part of the foundation stones has survived today. A few years ago it was reconstructed from the drawings of Giacomo Quarenghi. The size of the new building is a little different from the foundation, but in general it is very similar to the prototype. And the interiors were created as a kind of improvisation on a given topic. "Our task was to create an interior of the restaurant with a touch of historicism - the proximity of the old park and palace complexes could not be ignored," says the architect.
The floor is aged parquet, on the walls there are wallpapers imitating plaster. The ceiling is decorated with paintings in the spirit of the ornaments of classicism. The bleached linen covers on the chairs echo the soft drapes of the "French" organza curtains. Some of the tables are on the terrace, which offers a magnificent view of the park.
Respectable atmosphere of the restaurant corresponds to the kitchen. Chef Erik Wiedegord specially arrived from Sweden to surprise the Petersburg public with his author's cuisine (and it can rightly be attributed to the heights of gastronomic art). Petersburg surrendered to this Swede without a fight. Yes, and how to resist the temptation to try beef carpaccio with crispy flying fish roe or duck breast roll in shiitake sauce with the lightest corn polenta? And all this in the elegant interiors of the classic mansion, enjoying the view that Giacomo Quarenghi himself once admired ...
