There is another version of the palace style, much more modest and close to historical reality. An object from the past takes one thing: a form, a decoration or a motive. Everything else changes with an eye to the present. For example, an upholstery with a pattern of the American flag appears in the chair of Louis XIV, cups grow on the candlestick, putti play golf and all that jazz. This is a palace style for intellectuals.
