Architect Andrey Shmonkin organized a home cinema in the attic with huge windows offering stunning views of the city

Tells the architect Andrey Shmonkin: "We decided to place a home cinema in this Moscow apartment really quite unconventionally. In general, when creating interiors, we received a blank check from our customers. Here we had a three-level space free from internal partitions, and at the top level we decided to organize a home cinema. Instead of hiding it in a dark room, we chose an attic room for him, open to light on all four sides, very airy, and here we have a wonderful view of the city.

However, when the movie starts, the windows are closed with thick roller blinds that fall along the guides. So the room turns into a real studio, isolated from natural light. Spotlights are mounted on the ceiling along three axes. In addition, light scatters through a flight of stairs marked in the interior by a glass fence. The staircase, which rises from the hall of the second level of the apartment to the attic, with its glass steps refracts the light so that its reflections also penetrate into the home cinema room. In the room itself, flickering light is thrown by two thin luminous columns of glass. The play of light continues on the mirror surface of a black coffee table from FORWARD.

In the home theater, as in the whole apartment as a whole, we did not want to emphasize the furniture. Therefore, a large sofa from LIVING DIVANI we picked up the tone of the walls - a cool pale gray color. Dotted dots look black squares of puffs covered with leather. The famous model of the chaise longue, the design of which was developed in 1928 by the architect Le Corbusier (here - reproduced by Аlivar), perfectly fit into the monochrome color of the interior with its black and white skin. Even two identical posters, standing on the floor against the wall, deliberately lack color. The only color spot in the interior is a funny green palm tree in a huge tub.

An unusual detail for a home cinema is a large metal extractor above the grill fireplace on a wide marble windowsill. Opposite to it, where, at other times, a wide urban panorama is visible, the screen, hidden before the eaves, is lowered. The corners of the room are softened by a light drapery that runs over the eaves on both sides of the screen. The unit with the equipment is on the floor, which looks quite ascetic. Perhaps this approach is closest to minimalism. "

Apartment owner Natalya Novikova answered questions from Salon-interior magazine.

SALON: Judging by the list, in your living room there is not just an interesting, but, one can say, exclusive audio equipment. One acoustics VANDERSTEEN чего стоит, не говоря уж об усилителях B&K и кабелях XLO Electric. Чем обусловлен такой выбор? Увлекаетесь техникой?

- On the third floor, we are not functional, but a purely amusement space, in which we have long wanted to make a home theater. It so happened that when choosing equipment, we listened to the recommendations of specialists from the Purple Legion. Neither I nor my husband consider ourselves to be fans of sound or video; we don’t go around the salons, as some do not pick meticulously cables and speakers (in my opinion, this is called “audiophilia”). So the choice is not ours, but it turned out to be good.

S: It’s not often to learn about technology from its owners - so to speak, first-hand ... Do you like your movie theater?

- Everything sounds and shows great! Despite the glass and "ascetic" walls, music plays very well in the living room, I keep silence about the cinema ... The only thing is that during the day you still have to darken the room with curtains - the illumination prevents, especially when there is bright sun outside. And when we watch a movie in the evening, we deliberately leave the windows unobstructed - they all have such a beautiful view of Moscow!

S: You deliberately did not use any racks for AV-electronics? All equipment, and models of such solid brands, is scattered, which looks very funny.

- Receivers and any players on the floor - this is a temporary phenomenon, and not some kind of design move. Finally, the apartment is not yet decorated, then you will need to buy a nice glass rack. Not yet decided which one.

S: Here I noticed a VHS video recorder. Out of time ...

- I agree ... But what to do? We just have a huge film library on ordinary videotapes (about a thousand pieces), although now we mostly buy DVDs. This is the most modern format! And the discs do not take up so much space.

S: Do you have elements of an "intelligent house" in your apartment?

- If I started doing repairs now (the last one lasted almost a year and a half), I would definitely make the whole apartment "smart." It would be possible to establish both multiroom, and climate, and much more interesting. I do not want to lag behind the technical progress. But now it is already problematic, because you have to open the walls and floors again ... Although, for example, the curtains in the living room are closed automatically from the console and the lighting system has several scenarios. So some elements are present here. Is it possible to call all this "smart home", I do not know, but it turned out very convenient!
