Few inventions of the 20th century changed the world around us as much as plastic did. Experiments on the creation of synthesized polymers began in the XIX century - we owe them, for example, the invention of cinema, which was shot at the beginning of its history on celluloid film. But it was only in 1907 that Bakelite was patented - the world's first fully synthetic material.
To mark the historical significance of this event, the exhibition "Plasticity - 100 Years of Plastic Manufacturing" will take place all year round at the London Museum of Science. Now, 100 years later, plastic is experiencing its rebirth. More recently, the adjective "plastic" was almost abusive, synonymous with the words "cheap" and "mass", but designers began to refer to it more and more often as a high-tech material and grateful, able to be anything - modest and catchy, bright and pale, dull and transparent.
By the way, the latter is now the most popular - both in furniture design and in fashion. It is in the spirit of the newly actual 80s. Transparent plastic hides nothing, pleasing at the same time with all the colors of aniline rainbow.
