Pritzker Laureate Renzo Piano built a new building for Fundación Botín, one of Spain’s most important private cultural foundations.

Centro Botín is the first Spanish project of the Italian Renzo Piano. The cultural center was built on the waterfront of the city of Santander - on the site of a former ferry pier. It will become a venue for exhibitions, cultural and educational programs. Inside 2 500 square meters. m exhibition space, an audience of 300 seats, classrooms, workspaces, shop and restaurant El Muelle with two Michelin stars. On the roof there is a terrace overlooking the sea.

The total area of ​​the building is 10,285 square meters. m, which are divided between two D-shaped hull, connected by stairs and transitions. The side facades glow in the decoration of 270 thousand ceramic discs. They reflect the sun and the colors of the sky, thanks to the glossy surface. The facades facing the water and the city are made with panoramic windows.

The art center will open its doors for visitors on June 23, 2017 with three exhibitions at once. In addition to the permanent collection, Fundación Botín will show a collection of drawings by Francisco de Goya, provided by the Prado Museum, as well as works by Belgian artist Carsten Heller.
