Alpine country house, chalet - a common type of housing in Switzerland, the most mountainous country in Europe. The Alps — the Penninsky, Lepontinsky, Retiysky, Bernsky — occupy more than half of its territory. Wealthy Swiss (and not only) willingly buy up the old “shepherd's huts”, investing huge amounts of money in their restoration. However, Geneva-based decorator Alexandra de Garidel-Toron tries to avoid such orders: “I undertake them only on the condition that the clients allow me to bring something fresh, unconventional into the project”. This case is just one of these: customers (a married couple with three children) asked Alexander to create a beautiful, and most importantly, fashionable chalet. There were all the prerequisites for this: the refined taste of the decorator, the collection of modern art of the owners, and the area of 600 square meters. m

When asked what the chalet was originally like, Alexander replies: “Quiet horror! A lot of small rooms and corridors, in which it was easy to get lost, some transitions that did not lead anywhere. ” She considers recycling volumes to be her greatest achievement: the creation of vast modern spaces to replace traditional chamber rooms.

The designer opened the main premises for magnificent views: “Previously, there were only small windows, this design helped to keep warm.” Furniture and finishes are somehow connected with the natural environment. "The owners have residences in other parts of the world; I wanted them to feel here in the Alps." The main material of the interior is wood. For the walls and ceilings, the author chose the old, saved from wood intended for the demolition of buildings, roughly hewn beams keep traces of an ax. To the level of the fashion house chalets raise contemporary art and design. For owners, it was important that their masterpieces seamlessly integrated into the decor.

“Unlike many other collectors, they don’t exaggerate their treasures, emphasizing their value in every way, but simply love art for making their lives better. And I fully share this approach. ”

Alpine "shepherd houses" gave rise to a whole style in architecture and interior. It is actively replicated in Russia, but luck is rare: what looks organic in the Swiss or French Alps is not always appropriate near Moscow. However, for the European decorator, the chalet genre is not simple: in its pure form - cozy and pleasant for life, but for a person with advanced taste - obviously old-fashioned. Alexandra imposed an ironic look from today on the traditionally prescribed techniques. The walls and floor are made of wood, but fragmentary painted in bright colors. Among the compulsory bedspreads and pillows made from long-haired fur are examples of acidic colors. And for the role of the inevitable hunting trophies selected sculpture Polygon Double Deer 2 Japanese Kohei Nava and "Capricorn" by the French Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalande.

The author of the project is Alexander de Garidel-Toron. Next to the sculpture "Bear", which gave the name of the chalet. The author, K. Weyan, performed it from plexiglass.

Many of the components of the interior are somehow connected in meaning with the mountains, snow, ice. The fireplace is stylized as an Eskimo igloo hut, a marble sculpture by Tony Cragg looks like it was blinded on a nearby slope, the Drift Studio chandelier looks like falling snow, Robert Stadler's table is a jumble of ice floes.

The bar counter, which the designer Arik Levy made specifically for the house, "parodies" the laying of raw stone. The topic of bears has been worked out in full, here and there you can meet teddy bears of all sizes up to XXL, and in front of the house you can see the Plexiglas Xavier Wayan sculpture that gave the name to the chalet. “I like the emphasized modern character of this author’s works,” explains Alexander, “he was a pioneer in the use of chopped faceted forms.”
