Robert couturier: “the sale of the collection is young”

Decorator Robert Couturier put up for sale at Christie's his collection of furniture and art objects. He decided to part with 117 lots, among which are works by Jacques Adne, Andre Sornet, Armand-Albert Rato. All of them are from the New York apartment decorator.

Furniture and paintings, sculpture and photographs, silver and ceramics, glass and carpets have been a connoisseur of art and a fine expert in eclecticism for more than a decade. According to Couturier, he quite regularly exhibited his finds at auction from the late 1980s. “It is young to some extent,” he says. “And this is probably the last time in my life when I put up for auction.” Among the prosaic reasons - the "crazy" rent for an apartment in Soho, where the Couturier is going to move out to live somewhere far away from the city.

Dining table, Compagnie des Arts Français, 1948. Diz. Jacques Adne (1900-1984) and Maurice Savin (1894-1973). Solid oak, glazed ceramics. Estimate 20-30 thousand dollars Sold for 40 thousand dollars

Robert Couturier is not the only decorator who has decided to auction some of his personal treasures. In the spring, Alexander de Betak, founder of Bureau Betak, sold 200 items from his apartment in Paris. And at the end of last year, French decorator Jacques Grange broke up with most of what he hunted for in his lifetime.
