At the 87th year of her life, French couturier and the founder of her own Fashion House Sonia Rykiel passed away. Sonya Rickel was born on the outskirts of Paris on May 25, 1930 in the family of a Romanian watchmaker and his Russian wife. Sonya's first husband, Rickel, was the owner of a knitwear shop: she created her first knit dresses, adding to the assortment of the family store. Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve and Audrey Hepburn appeared among the faithful customers of Sonia Rykiel, and after some time she divorced and on the advice of her ex-husband in 1968 founded her own fashion house Sonia Rykiel. She was called “the queen of knitwear”, but Ms. Rykiel also designed the interior design for the Paris hotel Crillion (1972), a collection for a catalog of mail orders, produced clothes for children, accessories and perfume. In 2010, the fashion house Sonia Rykiel announced the creation of a collection of interior fabrics, and in the same year an exhibition of drawings by Riquel was held in Paris.
