Mario botta: architect's pencil

The famous Swiss architect Mario Botta (Mario Botta) designed a limited series Fixpencil for the company The Caran d'Ache.

Fixpencil - an automatic pencil - was invented in 1929 by a Swiss engineer, Karl Schmid: it was the first such written instrument in the world with a patented mechanism. Swiss architects and designers welcomed the savings of local cedar, from which they produced the pencils they needed, so that Schmid's invention turned out to be very useful. Since then, 25 different fixpencil models have been released, and each new tool has gained worldwide popularity.

For Mario Botta, Fixpensil is not just a tool for sketching and sketching. He often said that a pencil is an extension of the architect’s hand and must provide “a direct link between the movement of thought and the result on paper”. Botta chose a chess decor and a hexagonal shape. The drawing reminds him of the brick walls so often used by the architect in his buildings. Connoisseurs see this pattern as a special intrigue. The release of the pencils coincided with the opening of the building of the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco (SFMoma) reconstructed by Snohetta’s Norwegian bureau. In the new building, out of respect for the previous author, Mario Botta, one brick wall was left untouched.

The length of each brick in a pencil case is 1 cm. So designers can use it as a ruler.

Architect Mario Botta constantly reminds himself, showing talent in related industries. It ranges from large architecture to the scale of decoration and design: in 2016, he created a masterpiece for him - the Geo vase, and for Riva 1920 he proposed the Clessidra stool in new fashionable finishes.
