Architect Mario Bellini (born 1935) has been in the profession for more than half a century. He is a recognized pillar of the industry and one of the active creators of the Italian Design brand.

Mario Bellini was born in 1935 in Milan, in 1959 he graduated from the famous Milan Polytechnic University, receiving a degree in architecture. But, like most of his compatriots and colleagues in the profession, in the 1960s, instead of designing buildings, he plunged into industrial design. In 1961, he became the art director of the largest Milan department store La Rinascente, which played an important role in promoting Italian design. And soon he himself begins to create this design. True, at first he does not deal with chairs and lamps, but with office equipment.

In 1963, Mario Bellini became a design consultant for Olivetti. For almost 30 years of cooperation, he designed several dozen office equipment models for the brand. Ergonomic and intuitively arranged typewriters, computers, cash registers and devices, teletypes and printers filled offices, banks, offices and shops.

In the late 1980s, collecting all possible awards and prizes in industrial design, Mario Bellini turned to architectural activity. He opens the Mario Bellini Architects office, which now employs over 250 professionals. His career as an architect develops without bright bursts, but quite successfully.

Among the works of recent years, the grand congress center MICO in Milan is the largest in Europe (2012), the Pavilion of Islamic Art in the Louvre in Paris (2012), the reconstruction and modernization of the Bologna History Museum (2012), the reconstruction of the Deutsche Bank headquarters in Frankfurt on the Main (2011), modernization of the Verona Forum office and hotel center in Verona (2011), built in the USA, Japan, Australia. The construction of the Progetto Leonardo Science and Technology Park in Genoa is underway. This year, Terminal 3 will be commissioned at Rome Fiumicino Airport and the Forum Museum in the center of Rome.

Exhibition design and museum set design is another area where Mario Bellini is doing well. As a big fan of art and a collector, he could not ignore it. During his career, he designed at least two dozen different exhibitions on the history of design, modern architecture, the art of the Renaissance and Baroque.
