Joe ponti (gio ponti) for longyon house

June 9 will be held auction of the Phillips auction house in New York. Among the designer lots is a unique selection of furniture designed by architect Joe Ponti (1891-1979) for Casa Matteo Longoni (Matteo Longoni’s house). These are classic post-war items made in Italy: a bed, a bench, cabinets and shelves. The furniture is made of exotic wood with sapele, ash, walnut, maple and decorated with brass inserts, silver plated, combined with metal and marble. The furnishings for the villa of architect Longoni Joe Ponti designed in the 1950s. In parallel, in 1955, he completed the construction of the Villa Planchart in Caracas (Villa "Butterfly"); Villa Nemazee in Tehran, 1960; Villa Arreaza in Caracas; in 1958, the Alitalia office in New York. In Milan, he builds the first Milan skyscraper - an elegant Pirelli tower (completed in 1956), which he calls the “graphic slogan”. During the 1950s, Joe Ponty spent a lot of time on industrial design. The Distex chair, Superleggera chair (so light, even a child can understand with one finger) for Cassina have become classics of design. By that time, Joe Ponty had already created costumes for La Scala in Milan, exquisite glassware for his friend Paolo Venini and the coffee machine La Pavoni, which became a symbol of post-war Italy.
