On December 7, a Shiro Kuramata retrospective will open in the Luminaire space during the Design Miami 2017 exhibition. Shiro Kuramata died in 1991. He lived for 56 years and was remembered for his ironic and minimalist projects, bold handling of the form and love for materials unusual for his time. His work dates back to the 70s and 80s. Among the hits is a curved drawers drawers in a Irregular Form, invented in 1970. At the Cappellini factory, it was able to be put into mass production only twenty years later - before technology could not keep up with all the designer’s ideas. The How High The Moon chair (1986, Vitra publishes today) is an example of how a heavy metal can turn into an object that seems to be weightless. Glass Chair (1976) made of clear glass - homage to Pete Mondrian and the group De Stijl.

For the exhibition Homage to Kuramata, installations will be created that demonstrate the designer’s approach to color and shape, and highlight the various themes of his work.
